Year 12 Maths: Calculations on the Coaster
Year 12 Mathematical Methods students have taken on a high-speed challenge, designing their own rollercoasters using calculus and graphing software.
Using Desmos, students modelled sections of the track with parabolas, straight lines and other functions to ensure smooth and realistic transitions. Their designs required precise equations, accurate gradients and creative thinking to meet real-world constraints.

This task brought advanced maths to life, showing how concepts like differentiation and continuity apply beyond the classroom. With curves, loops and calculated drops, students proved that solving problems can be a real thrill ride.
